TIERRA CHILOE HOTEL

Castro, Chile

The Chiloé archipelago in central Chile contains verdant pastures, dramatic coastline and scenic clifftops. It’s a land of myths, legends, unique folklore and culture surrounded by pristine nature and a rich cultural heritage.

Discover a rural landscape of colorful houses built on stilts above the water and vibrant evergreen forests that invite hikers, photographers and nature enthusiasts to disconnect and re-energize. Awe-inspiring sea channels beckon kayakers to paddle through scenic routes.

In this land of timeless beauty, Chilean designers teamed up with local craftspeople to curate a relaxed and welcoming ambiance into the eco-friendly Tierra Chiloé Hotel. A strong commitment to sustainability is reflected in non-invasive practices, a plastic-free commitment and social responsibility towards the local community.

Gaze out on the Pacific Ocean from panoramic windows in the restaurant and lounge. Inviting living spaces feature a circular fireplace, reading room, bar and several terraces. Downstairs there’s a small wine tasting room and outside, soft seats surround an open fire. Scattered sea shells decorate the hotel grounds.

Tierra’s 24 tastefully designed guest rooms have large windows, hand-crafted furniture and locally woven fabrics. Some interconnect for family convenience and you can choose to enhance your stay in one of two spacious suites.

Dining is an integral element of Tierra Chiloé. Indulge in a farm to table concept with produce sourced from the local fishing community. Each meal is a set menu featuring local specialties. Appetizers may include corn soup with congrio, fresh mussels, sea urchins or merluza ceviche. Main dishes range from potato cannelloni filled with carrot and chorizo to chicken with pea purée and peppers and steak fillet with hummus. Chefs maintain close ties with the local fishermen and farmers to enhance their homemade breads and pastries. You may also get to try Chilean curanto – a traditional dish of mixed seafood and tasty ingredients cooked over hot stones in the ground.

Daily excursions are curated by on-site guides to help discover authentic cultural and natural experiences. Walk, bike, kayak, boat, horseback ride and photograph your way through Chiloé either in a guided small group with other guests or tailored just for your party with private guided experiences and ground transportation.

UNESCO has recognized 16 churches on the archipelago as World Heritage Sites for the unique form of wooden architecture demonstrated by highly skilled 17 & 18th century Chilote carpenters. During your stay, don’t miss a boat ride from the hotel pier to the fishing village of Dalcahue to discover one of these historic wooden churches. You’ll get to stroll an artisan market and try fresh clams. Other highlights of the region include the sunken forest at Chepu and horse riding along one of the coastal beaches.

At days end, the Uma Spa’s heated infinity pool, jetted plunge pool, steam room and sauna offer blissful tranquility. Or choose to indulge in shiatsu, reflexology or a deep-tissue massage.

Tierra is accessible with a 2 hour flight from Santiago to Castro on Chiloe Island, then a 30 min drive along rolling countryside to reach the 25 acre hilltop property surrounded by wild flower strewn meadows leading down to the blue waters of Reloncaví Sound where are on clear days the Andes mountains and volcanoes line the horizon.
