"We have taken quite a number of “adventure trips” and this was one of the best organized. It was an excellent well-rounded, well-spaced program."

Ultimate Brazil
The best of this vibrant, tropical nation

South America’s largest nation is a delightful, often-overlooked destination for nature and cultural tourism. Encompassing climatic zones ranging from tropical to temperate, the country’s diverse ecosystems include some of the earth's most inspiring wildlands—the Amazon, spectacular Iguaçu Falls, the Atlantic rainforest and mile-upon-mile of gorgeous beaches. Like its landscapes, Brazil’s cultures are equally varied, running the gamut from cosmopolitan and chic to rural and indigenous. Influences from European, African, and Indian populations are manifested in the unique traditions found in different regions. Combining excursions into some of the country's finest parks and reserves with tours of colorful, historic cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Salvador da Bahia, this exciting soft adventure provides an exceptional introduction to Brazil.

After touring Rio de Janeiro, one of the most vibrant and beautiful cities in the world, we hike through the dense forests and alpine-like highlands of Brazil’s first national park, Itatiaia. More than 400 species of birds, monkeys, sloths and other tropical wildlife are protected within the rugged boundaries of its primary and secondary Atlantic rainforest! At Salvador-Bahia on the northeastern coast, we learn about the African and colonial traditions while enjoying some of the most pristine beaches in the country. We conclude our journey of discovery in the tropical forests surrounding one of South America’s most spectacular natural wonders, Foz do Iguaçu.

Brief Itinerary

Days 1-3 : Fly to Rio and sightseeing in the Cidade Maravilhosa.

Days 4-6 : Hiking, birdwatching and photography in Itatiaia park on the Serra da Mantiqueira highlands.

Days 7-9 : Tour Salvador da Bahia, one of the country's richest cultural centers. Visit Cachoeira & walk the pristine Sapiranga Reserve.

Days 10 : Enjoy the comforts and gorgeous beaches of the Praia do Forte EcoResort.

Days 11-12 : Savor the majesty of 275 spectacular cascades in Iguaçu Falls Park.

Days 13-14 : Fly to Rio and return home, or extend to the wildlife-rich southern Pantanal for 5 days of explorations in a private reserve.
"Salvador has its special charm and historical interest. Iguaçu falls were stunning and exciting. Rio was more beautiful than we had expected even after seeing photos of it for many years. The Pantanal area was rich in wildlife and birds and the stars at night were incredible, and Itataia was different from all the rest because of its lush forests and streams and waterfalls. Every part of the trip was different and thoroughly enjoyable."
